The early 2014 protests in the Ukraine quickly turned deadly and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of both protesters and riot police. As the protests simmered down, a new entity formed: the pro-Russian militants. These militants are well equipped, well trained, and like ISIS in Iraq, are hellbent on fighting the government forces (in this case the Ukrainian military) and establishing their own republic as they attempt to take strategic towns, villages, airports, military bases, etc.
